Specialist tillage and seedingcontractors for all Canterbury conditions. Knowledge and experience to ensure establishment of all pastures, feed and seed crops.

Direct Drilling

We focus on direct (no-tillage) and conventional drilling, we can drill anything from pasture to specialist seeds, whether into hard turf or cultivated ground.   We have designed our own machine to be the best in the vast range of conditions we work in. The SuperSeeder is equipped by well known Canadian manufacturers Bourgault using their 3710 disc openers. This new technology has given us the opportunity to drill conditions that other machines cannot do a satisfactory job in.  We have three tanks on the machine and can therefor run three different products simultaneously, such as seed, fert and insecticide.

Maize Drilling

Optimum maize planting time runs from mid October to mid November in the Canterbury region.  To maximise our efficiency in this crucial time we organize our circuit of clients based on altitude, and run our John Deere 8 row vacuum planter with bulk fertiliser tank around the clock.  Our planter is stack folding for shifting between fields and jobs quickly.  To let our operators focus on the importance of seed spacing and application rates the tractor is full auto steer.  The planter is equipped with an automatic section control system which basically shuts off each planter unit as it comes over the headland in the field. We have a zero overlap policy with seed, which means the seed savings for our clients are huge..

Roller Drilling

This is the seeding method to follow up a cultivation job when sowing down pasture.  Best suited in an irrigated system, seed is broadcast and covered with the Heva Cambridge roller behind the discs last cultivation pass.  This leaves the finished result of a firm and flat seedbed with no gaps between rows, limiting competition from weeds.

Min-till

Min-till is a non-inversion method of cultivation.  This incorporates residue without completely burying it and without the need to burn it.  Min-till over time encourages organic matter in the soil without emitting much carbon to the atmosphere, and also promotes healthy worm population.  This approach works well in stony ground by leaving big stones down while bringing soil up.
We run the Danish Heva system with a ripper followed by disc roller.  Often one pass achieves a seed bed. We specialise in reconditioning stock damaged soils after the winter

Full-till

Full tillage uses the inversion method of ploughing.  This is a great way to bury all trash and perform a deep cultivation to help level out rough ground.  We often plough on development jobs where new fields are formed to help level out old fence lines, tree lines, and various paddock histories.  While some conditions will always require the use of a plough, most of the time it is more cost-effective and less time consuming to use the min-till or no-till approach.
